Day Three
Blairsville, GA to Montgomery AL, with a stop in Acworth GA
Got a good night’s sleep and hit the road this am. Was really looking forward to seeing an “old” roommate from right after we graduated from Supply Corps School.
Made it to Acworth GA and Henri’s Lousiana Grill. Shaun Bradley arrived at same time. We spend lunch recounting stories from our 6 months living in Virginia Beach in 1979. Some of those stories are coded Top Secret. One story was a Saturday night Shaun and Bob (our other roommate) decided to hit a few bars. My fiancé was in town, so I was not out with the guys. We woke up about 3 am, having smelled smoke. I walked out of the bedroom and there was smoke throughout the apartment, from about a foot off the floor. There were bright flashing orange lights in the hallway. It felt like something out of Apocalypse Now. I woke up Bob (it took awhile) and he mentioned something about a pizza. I tracked down a black Frisbee in the oven. It had once been a frozen pizza, maybe 2 hours earlier. Bob had been driving while Shaun’s prodigious right arm scooped up construction beacons. Our apartment smelled for 2 weeks. Shaun’s arm took abut a month to completely heal.
One thing we both agreed is how being accepted to the Naval Academy changed the trajectory of our lives. And created relationships that have lasted a lifetime
.After lunch I headed back down the road and am now in Montgomery. Looking forward to sightseeing in town tomorrow morning.

Nothing better than “cool drinks and cool meds”.
I’m sure Hunter S. Thompson would be proud of your road trip. In his day most of what we take for ‘maintenance medications’ were illegal.
Hurry south, my friend, and have that top ready!

I loved that your whole entire trip is based on reuniting with you dear friends from the service and school. This is a perfect story. Be grateful.
